Being the inquisitive type they love to experiment. Often found wandering around searching for new forms of minerals and plant life, they strive to produce powerful potions and invent new wonderful items. They have the ability to manipulate minerals to such an extent, that often people refer to them as magic-hands. Some highlights: - Reinc tax no longer goes to drained exp. It is gone permanently. - Reinc tax is dependant on how long ago you reinced last and how much your worth is. The minimum is reached in approximately one month. The reinc tax is affordable for everyone. - You can pay guild advancement costs with money or safe experience. You can also pay part money and the rest in safe exp. The cost is taken in this order 1) money in inventory 2) money in bank 3) safe experience Until the total cost of the guild level has been met. You must spend 2 safe exp points for one gold. - If you reinc within one hour of your previous reinc, the reinc tax is very low. - When you reinc the first time with the new formulas, all of your drained exp will be added to your safe exp. After that, you will no longer have drained exp. - The formula for counting the reinc tax is in effect immediately, IE. the reinc tax is counted from the time you reinced the last time, under the previous system. It is very unfortunate that some people cannot appreciate the time and effort put into bat, and feel the need to ruin the game both for them- selves and others by cheating with multiple characters. The archwizards usually try to verify suspected cheaters (within reasonable limits), but the lack of information on some players make it very hard. However, as BatMUD does not OFFICIALLY support or encourage such gaming or talk, it is still an active forum for also those who play such games "on the other machine" or so. A channel was made for these players (called "equo") which is supposed to keep such talk out of the mainstream channels. You can do the minmaxing thing with a single player computer rpg. The strength of the BatMud is that it has lots of players that form a community, and doing everything in the best way it can be done reduces the atmosphere because every player that want's to be an ok-player has to max himself, even if he doesn't really want to. Currently, at least some -if not most- city councils allow players to use the shops and other services of the city. This is more or less the original idea, also. Therefore, most (correct me if I'm wrong in this) players assume, that player cities are freely accessible, or if not, the restrictions are somehow stated. The spirit of this rule is, that the "normal" player should not be afraid weather he/she can enter the city gates. If he is not welcomed in the city, the guards can block his way, but he should be able to return to outer world. On the other hand, city council has the power in their city. If you are an enemy of a member of city council, and try to approach his city, don't be surprised if guards take actions. From: Gore Subject: lite command Date: Tue Nov 9 02:56:38 1999 Reply-Code: 24al Lines: 16 I recoded the 'lite' command and put it into the game. You can now lite people, channels, tells, said messages and messages based on the level into different colours. 'help lite' should tell more accurate details. If you need to do some really fancy output-thingies with messages, I still recommend using a smart mudclient. There is a maximum amount of things you can lite to avoid unnecessary lag on the mud. Typhos arrives from west. Typhos leaves east. ++ Gore p.s. As the command and code is fresh, it might bug some. Do inform me about the bugs so I can fix them. From: Tomba Subject: y2k Date: Wed Nov 10 19:00:04 1999 Reply-Code: 25al Lines: 6 To fix all year 2000 problems with equipment, I coded an y2k-converter which is located in cetral square. Enjoy. ++Belzoni From: Aarugotti Subject: item value code Date: Thu Nov 11 20:03:16 1999 Reply-Code: 27al Lines: 15 The value code of magical items was changed. The values of items that you see with identify etc. should be more logical now, and correspond more closely to what people sell them for on sales. It's not perfect, but you shouldn't see items like 7% elec resist worth 1.7M anymore. If you see items that seem too valuable, report to me. (there were plenty because of my fault, but those "should" be fixed). Also some shops might sell stuff for cheap and buy it for a high price. Not reporting such a thing and abusing it will lead to horrible punishment. Reporting such a thing will lead to task points. ++Aarugotti From: Tomba Subject: everything Date: Thu Nov 11 22:43:17 1999 Reply-Code: 28al Lines: 9 Backups were restored from nov 10 day boot, because nov 11 backups were broken. New channel code has been installed, I guess the only difference for mortals is that soul emotes work on channels with *emote*. Aarugotti did something with eq prices. And for those who have done it all, player city bridges have a new command "jump off the bridge". Have a nice day, Tomba From: Tomba Subject: y2k Date: Fri Nov 12 10:17:02 1999 Reply-Code: 29al Lines: 17 As most of you have guessed, the y2k converter was a bad joke from a tired, smart-ass archwizard who has nothing better to do. And the winner is... are... Diego and Nuc with shared first place! With 50 items converted! They won 10 task points! And the rest of the top 5 are: Squire - 49 items, 5 task points Astaroth - 48 items, 3 task points Rauta - 47 items, 2 task points Good day and happy new year, Tomba From: Finaldey Subject: Giant killers closed Date: Fri Nov 12 12:29:42 1999 Reply-Code: 30al Lines: 7 The giant killers area is closed for now. Thank you. - Finaldey From: Belzoni Subject: Channels part II Date: Fri Nov 12 15:45:00 1999 Reply-Code: 0am Lines: 17 New channels are here... Implementation finished at 11.11.1999 6pm EET time. After that, a lot of bug fixes. Current status: Implemented channels for public channels, societies and guilds. New channels will give you all the commands you had before (some guilds don't have who, and they still won't) , and give you a few extra options: 1) last <1-40> gives you 1-40 last lines. 2) emote/** sends emote to channel. New in this emote is that if that emote can be used as soul-emote, it's used as soul emote on channel too. Example: bat *smile* -> : Belzoni smiles happily. Implementation has faced some, hmm, setbacks but I'm working on it all the time. Keep those bug-reports coming and I'll fix things ASAP. ++Belzoni From: Amarth Subject: Batcon'99 dot one point five Date: Sat Nov 13 17:46:14 1999 Reply-Code: 1am Lines: 8 A quick Batcon held tonight at: Highlight Cafe, Helsinki/Finland Tonight (Sat Nov 13) at 23:00 Arrive in time or late, just be there. You will probably find some minor bugs or misfunctionalities, and all these new features: The @ is escape, like ! was before (in more). But @ works everywhere, so you can put @ in front of all your triggers and so they won't go into news posts etc. The ! is used only for history command, not for escaping. Driver was also compiled with all optimizations. This may cause crashes, if the other changes have not fixed the real bug. =) Have a nice day, Tomba From: Tomba Subject: preparser Date: Fri Nov 19 14:28:24 1999 Reply-Code: 10am Lines: 6 Preparser (history, commands, aliases etc) are not working 100% right. Herbs etc are fine for this. Buy lots of them. And keep them all in your inventory. If you don't want to lose equipment in crash, don't carry too many items. It's hard to say any numbers, but if you're carrying 200 herbs, you'll be sure to get "too long evaluation"-error while getting crash recovery. Less than 50 and you'll be prolly safe. No values were downgraded - you still have access to atleast as many lists/ lines/slots as before. Some people just have access to more than they were used to.
